A full practice run through the most-taken German exam in the world: four parts in the real order — Hören, Lesen, Schreiben, Sprechen.

  • The real exam has four parts: Hören (listening, about 20 min), Lesen (reading, about 25 min), Schreiben (writing, about 20 min), and Sprechen (speaking, about 15 min as a group of two or three).
  • You need 60% overall to pass. The certificate never expires.
  • In Germany this is the certificate for the family-reunion visa — proof of very basic German for spouses joining partners who live here.
  • In the real exam the listening texts are played from a recording, twice for Teil 1. Here, your device's German voice reads them — play them twice yourself for the full effect.

Teil 1: Listen to the five announcements. For each one, decide which statement fits (a, b or c). In the real exam you hear each announcement twice.
